Stacking the Shelves – May 12, 2019
Stacking the Shelves / May 12, 2019

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post! It’s been a while since I posted a book haul post. I’ve been requesting very little lately until I get caught up a bit and get back in the swing of things. I’ve been doing better reading this past month, so am more likely to get to some of these unsolicited one. And some of them look quite good! Received for Review I love the Stranger Things show so much, and have enjoyed the other books. This one gives the backstory of Jim Hopper, which sounds pretty cool! Many thanks to Del Rey for the review copy! Pirates? Escaping unwanted marriages? Yes, please! I am planning to make time for this one as it sounds fun and I enjoyed the other books I’ve read by Jensen. My thanks to Tor Teen for sending me a copy for review! Thisn one sounds a bit different, slightly strange and mysterious. I would need to be in the right mood for this one I think, as I don’t always do well with “weird”, this one sound like it…

Review: Dark of the West by Joanna Hathaway
3.5 Stars , Reviews / January 14, 2019

Dark of the West is the story of revolution, war, and of course, of forbidden love. It’s told through alternating perspectives from Athan, who grew up in constant war and is the third son of a ruthless and powerful general who is leading a revolution. Aurelia grew up somewhat sheltered as a princess of smaller kingdom that has not experienced war firsthand at home. I really enjoyed both perspectives. Athan is a pilot who is getting ready to go through testing to determine his placement after his training ends. He is the clear favorite of his mother who hates the constant war and wants Athan to find a way out of it, a way to stay safe and not waste his life. This makes her the opposite of his father who lives and breathes war and strategy and expects the same of his sons. If Athan had his way, he would follow his mother’s preferred path for him. He is extremely intelligent and a very skilled pilot, his father’s ideal combination, so Athan’s strategy is to hide as much of that from his father as possible. But his father is determined to use Athan however he can, and will use…

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme by That Artsy Reader Girl. This feature gives a weekly Top Ten list. We all love lists, right? This week’s theme is : Winter 2018 TBR I know that I might not get to all the books I want to read this winter, but here’s the list of the top 10 books I absolutely would read given all the time. The first on the list was from this year, a book I know I need/want to read, so I am going to try and prioritize it. The rest are all releases between now and the end of February that I’m anxious to get my hands on and look forward to reading!   What are the top books on your TBR this winter?

Excerpt / December 13, 2018

Today I am happy to host a spotlight for Dark of the West by Joanna Hathaway, featuring the new cover design as well as an excerpt. First, I love the the new cover, it is simple, but there are details in the corners that spark interest.  And I love the sound of this one and have it loaded to read sooner rather than later. Check out the excerpt below and let me know what you think!

Stacking the Shelves / December 1, 2018

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post! It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions!   Received for Review     Harper Voyager was very good to me again. I got a surprise copies of the Where Oblivion Lives by T. Frohock. I’ve really enjoyed everything I’ve read by her, so I’m hoping to find the time for this one. I’d not heard of The Lost Puzzler, but it sounds fascinating, so I’m going to try to read this one. I’ve not read the other books in the Ian Douglas series, so I’ve got some serious catching up to do to get to this one. Many thanks to Harper Voyager! … … … Were-dragons and a heist? Fire & Heist wasn’t on my radar before, but it sounds incredibly fun! My thanks to Crown! DAW also sent a couple of unexpected books. Tales from Plexis is a collection of short stories, which I have a horrible track record of prioritizing, so I may not get to this soon, but perhaps if the mood strikes I could give one of the…
