Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In
Top Ten Tuesday / June 5, 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme by That Artsy Reader Girl. This feature gives a weekly Top Ten list. We all love lists, right? This week’s theme is: So, this week was supposed to be “Books I Decided to DNF (did not finish) too Quickly”, but quite frankly, I find that hard to tell without finishing, and ultimately, any book I DNF’d, I had a reason for. So, I am going with the topic from last couple weeks instead: Bookish Worlds I’d Never Want to Live In Beyond Redemption – Magic is based on insanity, so the more unstable and crazy a person is, the more powerful they are. Yikes! Bite – A post apocalyptic world so harsh their are roving gangs of cannibals. Uhhh…. Nope!! Demon Cycle – The thought of demons just materializing around you is pretty scary. No thanks! The Fireman – A plague that makes people spontaneously combust. Sounds horrifying. Red Rising – The cast system is very repressive and the lower casts are treated as slaves to support the higher.  And honestly, there are some major downsides to being in the higher cast as well. As much as I love Darrow, I can’t say I’m interested in living…

Here’s a list of upcoming releases that I think are worth keeping track of, all either first and series or standalones. I read predominantly Fantasy, particularly epic fantasy, and my list definitely reflects that. This list wound up twice as long as I aimed for, and I know there are still more great books coming out not listed.   Looking forward to something you don’t see on the list? Share it in the comments!   EPIC FANTASY         FANTASY          SCIENCE FICTION           HORROR   EPIC FANTASY       Sins of Empire by Brian McClellan An epic new fantasy series from Brian McClellan, set in the same world as his wildly popular Powder Mage trilogy. The young nation of Fatrasta is a turbulent place – a frontier destination for criminals, fortune-hunters, brave settlers, and sorcerers seeking relics of the past. Review: Beyond Redemption by Michael R. Fletcher
4.5 Stars , Reviews / January 25, 2016

Beyond Redemption is a book that is wonderfully dark and twisted but well balanced with humor and interesting characters. The magic system is quite unique as it is based on insanity which adds a really interesting dynamic. The more powerful a person becomes, the more unstable they become as well. It is a very intriguing way to build a level of restraint and possible self destruction that is tied directly to their magical ability. And reality is also shaped by belief, so people with strong delusions can shape the world. And paranoia can also define your reality. Needless to say, it is dark, there are definitely some twisted things, but the book also does a great job building complex relationships between broken characters and adding enough humor to keep it from ever becoming too dark. There are some characters that become insanely powerful, but you can see their sanity fleeing, causing their own destruction. This was expertly done in my opinion. Pretty much anything is possible in this world as long as someone is delusional enough to make it happen, but there were costs and limits. There are many different types of delusions, so as you may imagine, there are also many…
