Stacking the Shelves / October 20, 2018

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post! It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions! Received for Review I was really excited about this one, and have already read and loved it. My review will be up this week! Thanks to Orbit for sending this my way! This one sounded like a great (and fun) change of pace. Many thanks to Saga Press and Wunderkind for the review copy! I’ve always really enjoyed the Green Rider series, and the books are typically 5 years apart, so I was happy to see the chance to read more in that world with this novella. Plus, love the artwork! My thanks to DAW books! … I’m behind on this series, but everything I’ve read by Scalzi, I have enjoyed, so I should get on it. Thanks to Tor! This one sounds like an exciting read! I’m really looking forward to reading it. Thanks again to Tor! … And WOW! Check out this package from Tor for the #FearlessWomen tour!I was really excited to get this big box of goodies. And even more exciting,…

Review: Firebrand by Kristen Britain
4 Stars , Reviews / February 20, 2017

Just a quick reminder that while my review is spoiler free for Firebrand, there are likely spoilers for the previous books. There is something about returning to read a new book the Green Rider series that just makes me happy. Maybe it is because I this is one of the first series I read in the fantasy genre, but I just find them to be very addictive, comfort reads that make me want to curl up with it until I finish. This one was no exception. With Firebrand, Karigan returns to her own time, so it includes many of our favorite characters from books past. I know not everyone was thrilled with the change in setting/characters/time period with the last book, though I personally really enjoyed it. For those that were less than thrilled, fear not, this book is much in line with the first 4 books in the series. Karigan is distraught and heartbroken over leaving Cade behind. She misses him deeply and feels guilt over leaving him, not knowing if he is still alive or not. In some ways, it was overwhelming, and impacted her personality a bit. But not so much that I felt it overdone or a…

Mirror Sight by Kristen Britain

So, when I sat down to write this review, I realized it was quite hard to do without some level of spoiler for the cliffhanger book 4 left you with. I have done my best, but you have now been forewarned that if you want to go into Mirror Sight completely blind (at the point of that cliffhanger), well, probably best to not read this review. Possibly not any reviews, before hand. So, onwards to my review. Before reading Mirror Sight, I have to admit to being in a bit of a reading slump. I picked up several books, would get to between 10 – 20% of each one and put it back down because I just wasn’t in the mood for it (not because I didn’t like the story or the writing). There were 3 sequels released May 6th that I have been waiting for, but of all of them I knew reading about Karigan was what would be most likely to keep my interest past that first 10 – 20% of the book. And I was right. I was immediately into the story (where it left off from book 5), and never lost interest. Which is really good,…
