Throwback Thursday – Soul of the World by David Mealing
Throwback Thursday / February 21, 2019

Throwback Thursday is a weekly feature to highlight books from the past. It can honestly be anything as long as its not a book that is a current release. Maybe its a book that I read and reviewed and just want to highlight, maybe its a book I read before I started reviewing or maybe its a book that has a sequel coming out soon or maybe its a backlist book from my TBR that I just want to revisit and decide if I will make the time to read. Pretty much, anything goes.  If you have a backlist book you want to feature in someway, please feel free to join in! (I’ll include a link-up for anyone who wants to participate) Every once in a while, there’s a book released that just seems like it should get more buzz and recommendations that I see it get. Soul of the World is a classic example of that. It’s an epic fantasy that is well written, has an interesting blend of characters, and so much potential to become an excellent series. I somehow completely missed the sequel when it came out (I knew about it, but somehow didn’t prioritize it. I think the lack of buzz didn’t help because I just didn’t get the online reminders and excitement that I see for other books (not all of which were as strong as this one, in my opinion) You can read my full…

Top 5 Tuesday – Top 5 Books I Didn’t Get To In 2018
Top 5 Tuesday / December 11, 2018

A weekly meme hosted by Bionic Book Worm where we list 5 books for the given topic. We all love lists, right? Top 5 Books I Didn’t Get To In 2018 So, this has admittedly been a slower than normal year for me reading wise. That means the number of books I haven’t gotten to that I REALLY REALLY wish I had is bigger. When making this list, I noticed all my top choices were subsequent books in series I’ve already started and love. I think maybe that’s because I am familiar enough with it to know what I’m missing by not having read them yet. I know I loved the initial books, so I just feel I’m missing out even more than a completely new to me author/series.   What are the books you most regret not finding the time to read this year?

Review: Soul of the World by David Mealing
4 Stars , Reviews / August 21, 2017

Soul of the World is a good debut that sets the stage for an epic, world spanning series featuring magic, fantastical creatures and beasts. Three very different perspectives are used to give us the world view, which features a new and an old world, and while there are different names, it feels much like England, France and the Americas. Aruk’Jar gives insights into the wilds and tribal life and its customs. There is a strong tradition of gender roles here and even the magic is split according to “women’s magic”. But we do still see strong females, women can hold on to that magic as a power for themselves. Aruk’Jar has a very “do the right thing” type of personality and is driven to his best for the benefit of his tribe. Erris shows the reader what life is like on the battlefield and an understanding of the war that is going on. She is in command of a military campaign and is doing a stellar job (I love women who excel in military positions). I really like Erris, she is a strong leader and soldier. She also has magic to aid her, and uses that to her advantage in…

Once again, it’s time to look ahead and get excited for what the new year has in store for us. Here’s a list of upcoming releases that I think are worth keeping track of, all either first and series or standalones. I read predominantly Fantasy, particularly epic fantasy, and my list definitely reflects that. This list wound up twice as long as I aimed for, and I know there are still more great books coming out not listed.   Looking forward to something you don’t see on the list?
