Stacking the Shelves – July 2, 2016

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions! And I am going to be out of town for the next week and am hoping I manage some good reading time to put a dent in my pile. We’ll see how it goes. I figure I will either end up with lots of reading time or none, will have to see how social I am expected to be 😀

Received for Review

Tor Books sent a couple of great books my way. An ARC of Red Tide by Marc Turner was surprise arrival and reminder that I really need to catch up with this series and read Dragon Hunters! Especially since I have seen rave reviews for both of them. Time to read these books! I was also thrilled to get a finished copy of Necessity by Jo Walton. If you follow my reviews, you know I loved The Just City and The Philosopher Kings. I’m really looking forward to this third book in the series. Thanks to Tor for sending these books my way!

Waking Fire by Ryan Anthony – This ARC copy of Anthony Ryan’s upcoming book was sent by the great people running Ace Roc Stars! I now have an ARC and a finished copy of this one, so may have to do a giveaway! Many thanks to Ace and Ace Roc Stars for sending me this! I’m really looking forward to checking out this new series!

When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord (paperback) – This is the new paperback releases June 28, 2016. This is an fantastic book that I read last year. If you’re not familiar with it, definitely check out my review and also the author interview I did. Many thanks to Mulholland for this surprise arrival. I am liking the new cover design!

Mulholland is also re-releasing paperback editions of Zoo City and Moxyland by Lauren Beukes on August 16th, 2016. I have not read Moxyland yet, so I figure this is a great chance to catch up on another backlist book for an author I already know I love. Many thanks to Mulholland for sending me these!

The Devil’s Evidence by Simon Kurt Unsworth was another surprise arrival (I love surprise arrivals, btw!). This is actually a second in series, so I need to check if it can be read as a standalone, and while I’ve not heard of the series before, it does sound like it could be good. Many thanks to Doubleday!

Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia Oct 25 2016. I recently featured this on a WoW post. I’ve read some wonderful, dark vampire books recently and look forward to seeing if this one hits the mark as well. Thanks to Thomas Dunne Books for the eGalley!

Red Right Hand by Levi Black Jul 26 2016. OK, I am seriously excited for this one because it is suppose to be a blend of horror and urban fantasy. Like, seriously excited. Many thanks to Tor!

Good Morning, Midnight by Lily Brooks-Dalton. This was another recent WoW post. It sounds amazing and I am pretty sure I saw it was perfect for fans of The Martian and Station Eleven. Umm… Yes, Please! My thanks to Random House!

Underground Airlines  by Ben H. Winters July 5, 2016 I am really excited for this one (Mulholland really releases some fantastic books). But I also decided it was one I might prefer in audio format, so was thrilled to get the audiobook version for review. Many thanks to Hachette Audio!

And as always, Tor.com was quite generous, providing review copies for these three books. I’m especially excited about Everything Belongs to the Future, a novella I already had planned as a WoW post. Many thanks to Tor.com!

  1. oodles of lovely books – hope you find time for them all.
I know you’ll make special time for Necessity – looking forward to that one myself.
Keen to see what you make of Zoo City too – it’s one of Beukes earlier books but I thought it was good – did you read The Shining Girls by the way?
