Waiting on Wednesday – Monstress

July 8, 2015

WaitingOnWednesdayWaiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine to let us share our excitement for books coming out soon.

Admittedly, I don’t read many comics. But the ones I have read, I have really enjoyed. So, seeing not just the description of this one, but the art? Yep. I’m keeping my eye out of for it. And just to convince you why, I’m including some panels I found of it. Gorgeous!

Title: Monstress

Author: Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda

Expected publication: November 2015

Publisher: Image Comics

“Monstress is about an outsider, a young woman who belongs nowhere; it is about young women who fight, who tame, who are consumedโ€”and who become monsters in their own right,โ€ said Liu. โ€œI wanted to tell a story that encompasses all these things, and more. A story about women, young and old, picking up the pieces after surviving the horrors of warโ€”and finding a home for themselves in a world that has otherwise exploited them. Set in an alternate history to our own, where immense Cloverfield-like monstrosities have conquered half the planet, and spanning the steppes of a shattered Asia, to the destroyed heart of a fallen Europe, Monstress is an epic adventure of frontiers and empires, and the rise of a young woman warrior, whose power may either doom or redeem the planet.”

LISAAAA!!! I did a WoW post for this a few months ago and was raving about how awesome it looks. I think the publication date was originally slated for June 2015 but obviously it’s been pushed back. Did you see the interview with Marjorie M. Liu where she talks about the concept of monster women? So cool.

Oooh yes! I saw this somewhere and thought I’d love it. I’m just like you, I don’t read a lot of comics and graphic novels but I love them when I do. This one goes on the list for sire!

I’m really excited for it! ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s funny how I think I’ve really enjoyed comic/graphic novel I’ve tried, but still don’t pick them up very often. But this one I will!

I know we’ve been talking about this one, but for some reason I never got the chance to actually looke deep into the description. And the art! Ooooh. I read comics but don’t typically review them, but you’re making it tempting to request this.

I don’t read many comics either, but pretty much all the comics I do read are from Image. I’m always checking out what’s coming up from them, and this one has been on my waiting list too ๐Ÿ™‚

Classical apocalyptic zombie dystopia. Just from the story, I wouldn’t jump on it, but the art does look amazing. I’m sure you’ll love this — I’m sure I would, too, if it were to fall into my hands. =)
