Stacking the Shelves – February 3, 2018

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly feature all about sharing your good luck in book acquisitions! So here’s what came my way since my last post!

It’s been another couple of great weeks for book additions!

Received for Review

I have another great haul to share today! Some of these are ones I recieved last fall but realized I never shared on Stacking the Shelves. I’m really excited about all these books hitting my mailbox!

The Queen of Sorrow by Sarah Beth Durst – I’ve not read the first two in this series so it will be a little while until I get a chance to read this one, but I am hoping to read the series since I’ve heard good things. Many thanks to Harper Voyager for sending this my way!

The Firemaker by Peter May – I had not heard of this one before it showed up, but it sounds pretty intriguing so next time I’m in the mood for a thriller, I may have to keep it in mind. My thanks to Quercus Books!

84K by Claire North – I was excited to get this one the other day. I have to admit, Claire North has been a little hit or miss for me, but I loved Touch, and this sounds closer to that style. Plus, look at that gorgeous cover! Its so simple yet very striking! Many thanks to Orbit books!!

I had a couple of surprise arrivals from Saga last year. I am really hoping to find the time to read Ka: Dar Oakley in the Ruin of Ymr by John Crowley. I’ve not read Little, Big, but have wanted to read it for a while. This new book of his might be a good chance to read the author. Also Quillifier by Walter Jon Williams sounds amazing. “Rogue. Joker. Lover. Reluctant soldier.”? Yup, I’m interested. Many thank to Saga Press!

I also had a couple of surprise arrivals from Tor!

The Mongrel Mage by L. E. Modesitt, Jr – I noticed this is #19 in a series, but I also noticed it said its the start of a new story ARC. I need to find out if this is a safe starting point or not.

Nemo Rising by C. Courtney Joyner – This is another series I’ve not started (but doesn’t have nearly the amount of catching up needed as The Mongrel Mage). Sea Monsters terrorizing the seas! Sounds exciting. Many thanks to Tor Books!

Tess of the Road by Rachel Hartman – I loved Seraphina so am looking forward to checking out this new book. And look at that cover!! Absolutely stunning! Many thanks to Penguin Random House Audio for the audiobook copy for review! Look forward to listening to this one.

  1. I’m really jealous of the Claire North book. 😀

I didn’t know there was a new Rachel Hartman book coming out! And it’s in the same universe! Reading the description, I’m definitely interested in this new one. (And yes, that cover is gorgeous, I want it on my shelf.)

I have no idea what Queen of Sorrow is about but they are hooking me with that cover. I am so easily hooked by covers. I’m totally a ‘judge a book by the cover’ person while browsing lol.

  2. I’m crossing my fingers for that Claire North book as well. Up until her most recent book, I had enjoyed everything she wrote, but then I absolutely hated The End of the Day. So I guess she is has become a hit or miss author for me too!

  3. Ooh The Queen of Sorrow (I need to read that series too) and 84K- both look fantastic. I added 84K recently after seeing it somewhere. And Nemo rising? That cover is awesome!!!

  4. Modesitt’s ginormous saga often caught my interest, although I must admit being a little scared by the sheer number of books I would have to go through… Nonetheless, I remember reading and enjoying very much one of his SF novels, Adiamante, so who knows? I might give his fantasy works a spin, one of these days… 🙂

  5. I’ ve got all three of the Queens of Renthia books and I’m really looking forward to reading them – hping to read them in fairly quick succession.
    Lynn 😀
