Friday Firsts: Wall of Storms by Ken Liu

FridayFirsts

Friday Firsts is a new meme that will run every Friday here on Tenacious Reader. It will feature the first few sentences/paragraph of my current book and my first impressions as well. It’s meant to be a quick and easy way to share a bit about what I am reading, and I would love to hear others join in sharing their current reads as well.

Masters and mistresses, lend me your ears.

Let my words sketch for you scenes of faith and courage.

Dukes, generals, ministers, and maids, everyone parades through this ethereal stage.

What is the love of a princess? What are a king’s fears?

If you loosen my tongue with drink and enliven my heart with coin, all will be revealed in due course of time. . . .

The sky was overcast, and the cold wind whipped a few scattered snowflakes through the air. Carriages and pedestrians in thick coats and fur-lined hats hurried through the wide avenues of Pan, the Harmonious City, seeking the warmth of home.

Or the comfort of a homely pub like the Three-Legged Jug.

“Kira, isn’t it your turn to buy the drinks this time? Everyone knows your husband turns every copper over to you.”

Liu, Ken. The Wall of Storms (The Dandelion Dynasty Book 2) (Kindle Locations 219-227). Saga Press. Kindle Edition.

See Excerpt from Chapter 1 – Thanks to Saga Press, I have an excerpt for Chapter 1. Definitely go check it out!

This longer Excerpt is a great chance to get a better feel of Liu’s style!

My First Impressions

Liu’s prose continues to be a joy to read. Something about it lends a more epic feel to his stories. I hate to admit, I may set it to the side temporarily mainly because it can be highly political, and I think right now I would do better with a nonpolitical book.

What are you reading right now? Did it start out strong? Feel free to share in the comments, and also feel free to link up!
